Safety precautions when using a filter press

Ensure the good condition of the filter press. The number of filter plates used should not be less than the mechanical design number (or regulatory number), and they should be properly arranged. The hydraulic pressure, feed pressure, and chamber pressure should not exceed the mechanical regulatory range, as indicated on the filter press nameplate.

Replace components regularly. Filter cloths should be replaced every 5-6 months, or immediately if damaged. The hydraulic oil should be replaced every 4-5 months, or more frequently in industries with heavy dust. It is also important to maintain the cleanliness of the hydraulic cylinder, circuit, and motor.

For a plate and frame filter press, the drive system’s screws, nuts, bearings, and shafts should be lubricated 2-4 times per shift. The pulley shaft of the hydraulic filter press also needs to be oiled. Care should be taken to avoid any lubricant on the screw.

Adjust equipment parameters carefully. Avoid making pressure adjustments or engaging the press again while under pressure. Do not change the current, voltage, or circuit of the equipment circuit to prevent damage.

Do not stand behind the hydraulic cylinder when the filter press is in operation. During pressurization and retraction, personnel should be attentive to prevent endangering human safety.

Check the sealing surface of the filter plate for integrity and damage, and ensure that the filter plate remains straight and parallel to the mechanical structure.

During plate discharge, do not reach into the filter plate gap with the head or arms.

Ensure that all filter plate inlets are unobstructed and that filter cloths are regularly cleaned. Keep the control box dry to avoid short circuits or leaks due to water ingress.

For a diaphragm filter press, open the drainage valve and exhaust valve before opening the press, and then drain the air and water from the diaphragm plate chamber before opening the inlet valve and air inlet valve.

Before operating the filter press, it is necessary to go through one low-pressure condition and two high-pressure conditions, and then feed material normally, while paying attention to the flatness of the filter plates.
