JW & Zijin Mining: Tailings & Water Recycling Exchange

In September 2025, Mr.Wu, Chairman of Jinwang Filter Press Co., Ltd., visited Zijin Mining’s advanced facilities in Longyan, Fujian, sparking a transformative dialogue on tailings treatment and water recycling. As global mining faces mounting environmental challenges—with an estimated 19 billion tons of tailings projected by 2025—this exchange highlighted innovative solutions for turning waste into sustainable resources.
Zijin Mining, a global leader in gold and copper extraction, showcased its cutting-edge approach to tailings management. Its “Whole Life Management Process” ensures both safety and efficiency, utilizing advanced rainwater-wastewater separation to recycle 90% of process water. In water-scarce regions, Zijin’s graded water use and neutralization systems reduce freshwater demand by 40%, aligning with global sustainability goals. Mr.Wu was impressed, noting clear synergies with Jinwang’s expertise in solid-liquid separation. Since 2016, Jinwang has supplied high-efficiency chamber and membrane filter presses—ranging from 800 mm to 2000 mm plates—to mining operations worldwide, including Zijin. These presses dewater tailings to below 20% moisture content, enabling dry stacking and eliminating the risks associated with conventional tailings dams.

Jinwang and Zijin Mining signed an MOU combining IoT filter presses with AI to advance sustainable mining. The technology reduces energy use by 30%, increases water recovery to 85% (saving 3 million cubic meters annually), and extracts residual metals to transform tailings into valuable resources.
